Reclaiming your Roots

This is a workshop from the series Your Body Knows, Your Body Feels . This month, Zeshan Mustafa co-leads with me the workshop titled Recovering your Roots in which we invite you to explore your connection with your ancestors. The value the dominant culture we grew up in places on the new, the young and the material disconnects us from the value of the spiritual, the familial and our identity. Whether you grew up in a small town and moved to the big city, whether you were adopted or had to adapt when migrating to a new country, silencing what makes you different to integrate into the workforce, a new family through marriage or for your physical safety, it is difficult to maintain awareness and connection with our lineage. By losing contact with our origins and ancestors, we lose a part of ourselves and, with it, a valuable source of wisdom and connection.

Participate with us in an exploration of your roots to recover those parts of our being which we exiled. When we fully integrate who we are and where we come from, it allows us to connect more with our power and purpose in life and create better relationships with others. Through breathing, contact with our body, movement, sound and connection with others, we will create a space in which to connect more with our ancestors and nurture a conscious relationship with our own history and with our origins.
